The Day My Body Said, "NO!"

Today was my LAST long run before my full marathon
and also the day
MY BODY SAID, "NO!!!!"

I was feeling pretty fabulous before hitting the asphalt. I'm one month out from my full marathon. I've run 22 miles before. This 20 should be CAKE!!!! Or, so I thought....

About 1 mile in, I had this super strange twinge in my Achilles. As any Macrina/Unsinn kid would do, I ignored it and thought to myself, just run it out. That I did. I ran it out....ran it out til about mile 11 when my Achilles apparently had enough and said, "NO MORE!" It kind of sent this painful sign telling me to stop and startled nearby runners as my stride quickly turned into a less than sweet dance move and no, that wasn't music from my headphones the passers by were hearing. It was more than likely an F-bomb or two flying from my little mouth not realizing how loud it was actually coming out...SORRY FRIENDS!

So here I sat....

...legs stretched out before me. Trying this stretch and that and well, planning that last 9 mile trek back to my car.
Thousands of thoughts were spinning through my head...
...like...
-Can I make it back to my car?
-I HAVE to finish this final long run!
-Maybe I should walk for a minute...ugh, walk!!!??? YUCK! NO, RUN!
---UBER!!!! YES, get an UBER---
-NO, STOP!!! YOU ARE NOT A QUITTER!!! STRETCH, WALK IT OUT and CARRY ON!

...AND SO I DID...

Needless to say, that didn't get me very far.
The walk, run, OUCH, walk, walk, jog, OUCH, walk, run, walk, walk, walk, LIMP, got me to about here...

This very pretty place, where I proceeded to sit, massage, stretch, contemplate and
YES, get an UBER!
Man, did I feel like a failure. I gave up. I gave in to this silly little Achilles. WHOAAA....wait a minute... FAR FROM IT! With a little phone call to my best friend, all of this negative brain talk had disappeared. No, I'm NOT A QUITTER. It is now time to LISTEN to my body if I think I'm going to be able to hack a half marathon next weekend and a full marathon in 4 weeks!

So, here I sit now... resting, freezing, icing and getting my mind ready to heal this injury, so I do not have to quit the marathon before I even start! Here's to the next few weeks, of
REST.ICE.RECOVER
and if you know me, some upper body training, abs and yoga for my mind.

Let's see where this gets me.... :)
